Winner of a competition to design a temporary pavilion for a courtyard on the Manchester University campus, Reflective Room is conceived, designed and built in collaboration with 5th year students at Manchester School of Architecture. The brief requires a demountable structure that responds to surrounding buildings while improving local facilities.
CAD programmes facilitate the design of structural components and execution of cutting lay-outs to ensure
minimum material waste. Reflective Room is constructed from 450 CNC milled marine ply parts assembled on-site with 6,000 black ceramic tiles fitted into CNC routed locations.
Reflective Room provides space for meeting and quiet contemplation while the mirror-like surface of the tiles replicates the shifting sky-scape above.
