Yohji Yamamoto: SHOWSPACE
Yohji Yamamoto, one of the most exhibited living designers, 'hates' fashion exhibitions and believes that museums 'are where fashion goes to die'. For Yamamoto the runway show is the only way to present fashion: this sets a challenge for the exhibition-maker.
SHOWSPACE responds with a proposal that draws on Yamamoto's flirtation with couture - a contemporary couture salon where garments are presented on live models.
The models walk in ensembles selected by visitors and discuss the sensation of the fabric and details of construction. Visitors are also invited to try on garments.
The exhibition is featured by Harpers, i-D, Dazed, The Guardian and The Telegraph.
