Ceramics expert Moira Vincentelli journeyed through the countries of north and south Africa to observe trends in contemporary pottery. She returned with an eclectic collection of objects and hundreds of photographs documenting her travels.
The exhibition design plays on the re-location of the objects from Africa to the UK and articulates their original intended purpose; decorative and utilitarian items are
displayed on European domestic furniture, traditional objects are placed onto museum storage shelves and works by eminent makers are put into gallery display cases. Moira's photographs, presented as framed holiday snaps and large-format images, Illustrate the story of her expedition.
All of the exhibition fittings were selected so that they could be reused or recycled after the show.
