On a visit to Manchester University Mark is disappointed to find that the Centre for the Research of Surrealism and its Legacy is housed in an inauspicious and characterless breeze-block office. Mark determines to construct a more suitable home for the research centre staff.
The Bureau of the Centre for the Study of Surrealism and its Legacy is a meticulously constructed fabrication: a
fictional office for a real research centre. It is constructed from, and furnished with, material retrieved from Museum stores, auctions and car-boot sales. Wallpaper is commissioned that juxtaposes Rorschach blots with facsimile signatures of famous Surrealists.
The installation of the Bureau is accompanied by a publication and set of 12 business cards designed by Mark Dion.
